Yep, civil engineering mixed with sufficient funding can create wonders. Girls and boys with big and expensive toys

Not quite as spectacular, but there's also a roundabout/traffic circle in one of the tunnels further west on the same road.
Late response (was busy last night) - but would you call this an “undergroundabout”?

My vote is for the Pontiac Aztek.

The ugliest car ever.

Ever.

There is a reason they only produced it for a few years.
I loved my Aztek. Bright yellow with black trim. Put 70K + miles on it driving across Nebraska and Colorado. And a trip from Omaha to Virginia for the USGS setup at the BSA National Jamboree, full of stuff. Wonderful vehicle!

Hard to forget the square steering wheel though
That was the Vanden Plas trim version – top of t'range, tha knaws. Cheapskates got a round wheel like ordinary folks, but it was still a bag of bolts.

The Romans took a simpler approach - a Roman road in the UK Lake District just goes up the hill from Langdale to the fort atop a pass. Known as Wrynose Pass, it’s about 5 miles from Little Langdale at often 1 in 4 uphill (25% incline) on a single track with a sprinkling of twisty bits. Cyclists daft enough to try pedalling this discover the terrific view down to Eskdale is not available unless you do the last bit, which is Hardknott Pass. It’s fairly short, much twistier and averages 1 in 3 (33%). Uphill.

Someone I know was entertaining a guest around the roads of the district in the guest’s hot hatchback and directed guest this way. Having charged up Wrynose with much revving and whooping, the guest was then pointed towards Hardknott which elicited a cocky grin and more revving etc. At the top of this pass his car boiled over in clouds of steam and the guest directed a look towards his host of fire and brimstone!

Cyclists do try these routes: care for a crack at it, Mark?
I'd be keen. But I have one rule: Never walk it, always ride it. (Even if it kills me)

Funny that! I read an article about that underground roundabout in an engineering magazine recently.

Decided I was of an age that I shouldn't be repainting the 2nd and attic levels so we contracted that out this summer.
Beautiful house Jim! Do you have a picture showing the whole facade?

The Nissan Cube is a popular "old person car" here. And ugly. (The car, not (all) the old people)

The men who design such abominations should have their man cards revoked permanently.

Beautiful home.

Does the guy who built the house next door still live there?

True, not all old people are ugly, but the Cube is an embarrassment to be seen in. Daihatsu made a just-for-the-wrinkled which always looked taller than it was long - with a spoiler on the tailgate… I thought it was perfectly placed as a handle for the wheelie bin it resembled.
