I've always enjoyed the dragon quote, even if Tolkien never said it.

Pizzas last night. Father's Day here, but due to Level 3 lockdown, we were missing a child at the pizza party.
John checked the oven for loose mortar before I fired it up.

And I thought the days of sending children up chimneys was past - New Zealand really is a different country!

He was quite useful when he was about 6 and I could send him to run ducting in the far reaches of the roof space! Now, he's a bit big for that!

No, the missing child is unfortunately in a different region so could not come home due to lock-down.

Interestingly, the oven heats better and uses less wood if I make a small fire over about 6 hours, than if I make a large fire over about 3 hours.

My younger boy was really keen to help with cables and pipe insulation under our wood floor, but unsurprisingly went off the idea with experience and as he grew bigger. The hatches are all screwed down now and neither of us wants to go back there.

Bribery. I said to him: Do you want to earn a quick $10? I imagine his hourly rate has gone up since then.

We're roasting a chicken in the oven tonight. The oven is at 180degC, 24 hours later.
