We're not traveling to far-off, exotic lands as you are, but I am going to take her to the fanciest restaurant in town. Think Denny's with table cloths and cloth napkins. People do tend to get a bit dressed up for it. (In Pierre getting "dressed up" means clean blue jeans and knocking most of the mud off of your boots).

My mom celebrated her 85th birthday Saturday. I took her a dozen roses and a card, and then took her out for a nice dinner.

I have sat in a saddle a few times (in three different countries on two continents, come to think of it - and never in Norway), but I know very little of how to ride a horse. I've meant to learn but never gotten around to it - if I'm able to find someone interested in teaching an old* guy how to. Most of them seem to focus on kids.

*Old compared to #4 anyway.

Congratulations, Mr Parallax!

And to Mrs. P, I suppose.

Give her a new mop.
Diamonds and roses are nice but their memory will fade over time, a new mop will never be forgotten.
Great idea! Someone married for 37 years must know what he's talking about, right?

Or he just learned when to bite his tongue.

Maybe they should raise the roof, then
I have read somewhere, that actor John Wayne drove large Pontiac station wagons, with raised roofs, so he could drive with his 10 gallon cowboy hat on. Uhh...maybe not.

A girl down the street from us owned a horse. It got out one day and I followed it for over a mile while trying to grab it. It was finally nabbed by another guy so I took the bridle and was walking it home. All the way back to it's stall it kept trying to step on my foot. Managed to do it a few times too.
Bet that hurt.

Hearty congratters to you both, but being 10 years behind ya I’s offerin’ no advice, no sirree. We couldn’t mark our 25th properly last year for that reason (like everybody else) so we had a proper dinner for two this year, the sort we have once or twice a decade. I can still remember how it tasted!!

Bon appetit!

Geez...we're going on 38 years of marriage. But if I include my first marriage, which was about 5 years long, that would make a total of 43 years of married life for 'ol # 2.

Do cumulative totals count...or ...?
