In other news, I won a monthly drawing for canned seafood, a $50 value.
Some sardines, mostly mackerel, and a bag of fancy sea salt.
Recently a buddy of mine received a seafood shipment from the Maritimes. I had a pound of cod cheeks ordered. Soooo good.

I have quite a few family living in BC...waiting to hear if they are all okay. My brother is on Vancouver Island and is okay for now.

More pictures from BC... sorry they're on the silly social media platform thing - you should be able to see them without an account, but they really are excellent and worth sharing to show the extent of the damage.

It says “you must log in first”.

Not gonna happen.

Oh that's too bad. They really are something.

On my computer I can see them if I'm not logged in - there's a big banner on the bottom saying to log in, but if I ignore that I can click the pictures and click through them.

It's interesting to think how little data 5MB is and how much space that took up at the time.

So a byte is 8 bits, where one bit is either a 0 or 1. With a word document open and writing down some bytes, just "01010101" for simplicity with a space in between to separate them, I can fit 2500 "bytes" on a US standard letter page at a small but readable font size 5 with ¼" page margins. If one were to print that double sided, you get 5KB of data per sheet of paper. That means that 5MB hard drive there only has the data capacity of 1000 sheets of paper. With a ream of standard copy paper being roughly five pounds, that's only 10 lbs.

On the other hand, look at the 64GB SD card in my camera... it's figuratively nothing and "holds" nearly 13 million sheets of this paper... but wait. You get up to 1TB microSD cards now, which is equivalent here to 200 million sheets of paper... or around 2 million pounds of paper! How can one even visualize how much that is... according to Google, a Boeing 747 is around 400 thousand pounds. So that 1TB microSD card has the equivalent weight of five 747s of paper in data. All in something that weighs one quarter of a gram! Pretty amazing. And there I go mixing imperial and metric units again
I guess the ancients made a similar data storage advance going from clay tablets to paper.

Clay tablets last longer, and don't need to have the technology maintained to be accessible.
My prints are only supposed to last 200 years.

You could say that again... over the day I keep seeing more and more pictures of other destruction.

Military has been called in to help, so caught a chopper (CH146 Griffon) right overhead when I was working. Not the best shot, but adequate for a snap at whatever settings were there and through a window:

Looks real good. Out here on the prairie, we love pickerel (what many here, call walleye) cheeks.

Best tasting fish I ever had..is actually a toss up between fresh Yellow Perch caught in Lake Manitoba, or the cod we had for a meal in Newfoundland.

Our daughter's neighbour caught it, while fishing (baitcasting) as he was floating in his dory, in the Atlantic.

Our daughter cooked it.

' Magnifique ' as the French say...as I'm not sure what the Newfoundlanders say.

That bacon soda sounds much better than the barium contrast I'm about to start drinking.
Good luck Bob!
