I think Euler's identity is what Tim's talking about and it's worth checking out to see how it's derived. But only once, unless you're studying pure mathematics. Which I understand you're not studying. Can't say I know about Tim.
Once was enough - saw it in first year algebra class, at least I think it was that, as I was half asleep...
Too much math involved with engineering - isn't that what we've got all those fancy calculators and computers for these days?

I'm waiting for Bob to come in and tell us to stop blabbering about math and get back on track

Oh no, dear me no! Academic engineering (as distinct from hands-on nuts, bolts and welding) depends on maths: if you don't understand the problem you have no idea if that calculator or computer is giving you the right answers. Knuckle down, young lad: without a practical understanding of graduate-level maths you're not going to be a useful professional engineer, just another candidate for middle-management. Which is fine if that's what you're content with!

Aren't those bacon sarnies ready yet? I expect Bob has eaten them already ....

I seem to remember Bessel functions were the point where I realised I had no idea what the lecturer was talking about any more

I expect I'd use t'Interweb a lot nowadays in a degree course in hope of reducing bafflement, but these days I've passed the baton to my eldest. Unlike Bertie he doesn't play the bagpipes, but something even louder...

Haha of course, as much as I complain about the maths involved, it can be a fun puzzle in engineering projects. It's when you're doing pure maths courses and integrating functions within functions within functions over several variables that one gets a bit put off

I cannot lie and say that the internet is not a helpful resource. What is not a helpful resource, is online classes with no in person lecturing... soon to be changed hopefully...

Did a bit of Googling, Trombone noise levels seem to be 85-114 dB. Bagpipes seem to be ranging from 111dB to 122dB. There's a reason I wear earplugs when I play

I'm guessing that everyone near you does too. Uh, simply due to the volume of course.

I've been drifting, as you say #1, too much blabbering about math.

Here's a math problem:
I have 5 pounds of bacon and my neighbor takes 3, how many pounds do I have left?

Answer:
All 5 pounds and a dead neighbor.

Three guys were on a hunting trip when it started raining really hard so instead of staying in their tent the checked into a motel. They could only afford one room. The clerk said "that will be $30.00" and they each handed the clerk a ten dollar bill. Later the manager came back and told the clerk to give them a $5.00 discount for having multiple people in the room.
The clerk couldn't figure out how to split $5.00 3 ways so he kept 2.00 for himself and gave each of them $1.00.
Here's the math problem:
Each guy paid 10 but got 1 back so each one is now out 9. 3x9=27. The clerk kept 2. 27+2=29. Where's the other dollar?

I've told this for the better part of 50 years and still have to think about it for a while to get my head around the explanation.
