When I was young £10 after conversion to dollars was $20. It seemed like a king’s ransom or a monumental debt.

Yep, that's the way I remember it. Now £1, by today's exchange rate, is only about 9.8 ounces.

As a kid I used to offer my pommie “friends” ten pounds (the price of a migrant’s fare in those days) to go back home.

Strewth, mate, you had too much pocket money! Or too few pommie friends.

Absolutely.

On both the paternal and maternal sides.

To clarify a point or two;
If I had been born with a spoon in my mouth, it would have been rusty tin.
Both grandfathers were dead long before I was born - paternal, a couple of years, maternal, 20 or 30 years.
Inheritances from both sides of the family ranged from zero to not that much.
Pocket money was also zero - I had a morning paper round for a few years from where any calls on my offer to return the pommies home would have come. I heard lots of complaints about Australia from the pommies but they are all still here.

Today I bought a bbq. Of the approved yankee brand.

It it their smallest, the rectangular box portable type. That suits our need. It is a charcoal burner.
Would #1 Bob approve?

Great weekend camping at Driftwood Provincial Park along the Ottawa River. Couple of good hikes, read my book, enjoyed a couple campfires and yeah, the solar worked well.

Some people aren’t happy unless they are complaining.

Everyone needs to do what they are good at, eh?

We hear lots of complaints about Britain from an Aussie expat, but he’s still here too!

To clarify a point or two, well, one anyway; tin doesn't rust.
