And at stumps, 5/233.

Two English batters got out in the last two overs, making a very big swing in the momentum of the game. Prior to the two wickets it looked like England had dominated the day's play. Now Australia is on the cusp of the tail, one specialist batter is in, and the tail is exposed, hopefully enabling them to get the non-specialists out in quick succession, leading to the specialist becoming 'not out' at the end of the innings for a fairly cheap 'not out'. Of course it would be better if he becomes flusters by losing partners, tries to up his scoring rate and does something unwise that results in a relatively cheap 'out'.

I read a text exploring basic cryptography years ago
one of the takeaways was german's penchant for purpose-built words gave them some protection against decryption

lately I've heard that the 140 character limit was raised on twitter so that more than one word could be tweeted

I do not regret losing the 42C days from the Clare Valley. I used to live in a different vineyard area not far from there. That weather is part of the climate that is good for the wine flavour intensity, although too many days like that is destructive of the fruit, but very hard to grow fruit trees. I did that in my backyard, had about 25 trees and most years there was extreme weather that damaged something, and depending what time the extreme weather came, which fruit was spoiled.
did not know that...but now I do

funny thing about weather...I only think of it as "extreme" when any of it goes on too long
since we have seasons we get a bit of everything
I've worked in 30 below and if I remember rightly 110 above

one summer I was combining with my uncle
we hauled a load of grain to the elevator
the drive through was shady and cool
I got a soda while he unloaded
I noticed the big old seed company thermometer said 120 (in the shade)
I asked the guy sitting next to me if that could be right
he said that in the summer anything over 100 was hot and in the winter anything below zero was cold

So now England are 3/171 at the SCG after winning the toss and electing to bat. Rather slow scoring given they are coming up to drinks in the final session.

For the uninitiated, 'drinks' does not normally mean that they take pints out to the players, just more 'healthy' fluid imbibables.
used to play soft ball with a Keg of beer set at 2nd base

had to remove the keg, players refused to run past 2nd

and fights broke out over who played second base and short stop

The rules of Cricket must have been developed by a subcommittee of a committee that made changes and then passed them on to a ruling committee subcommittee for final review before the ruling committee passed them on to a ruling board which referred them to a specially convened committee of lawyers who added their interpretations and published a set of rules for the club membership to review and make recommendations for changes to said rules which were then referred back to the original subcommittee of a committee to finalize the product.

In the US our cricket clubs couldn't wait anymore as they had to go to work so they invented baseball. They are, however, still anxiously awaiting a copy of the final rules to vote upon. Any idea when the rules will clear the subcommittee of the committee so that they can be tabled? Just so you no, in the US to table a motion is to set it aside for later. In Great Britain it means to bring it out for discussion and action. There are whole committees working on this too.

Once ten blind men inspected an elephant with their hands. The list of their observations were the rules of cricket.

Sheffield (where they only play on Wednesdays)
They're the only one to stick to that. All the others, like Manchester Monday and Tottenham Tuesday, realised that the games got very one-sided when no two teams played on the same day.

There only four days of the Ashes series to go now. Since Australia has already won the little urn it is just an interesting curiosity what result arises from the current match at the SCG. This match finishes before I go to work on Monday morning.

On the last night of our holiday, I had this for dinner: Green lipped mussels steamed in a white wine and cream sauce.

Spotted at the local movie theatre, where we went to see the latest Star Wars movie, Episode VIII, The last Jedi.

My head hurts - not just from the movie.

Indeed! Not nearly as noisy though.
