The survivor of the original authors, Albert Uderzo, died just recently. I love the names: Asterix, Vitalstatistix, Cacofonix, Fulliautomatix, Getafix, Unhygienix, etc. The stories are full of puns and in-jokes, which vary completely depending on which language version you read. A bilingual friend told me the original French was quite different from, but just as funny as, the English versions I knew.

I think I've only ever read them in French, and I read a lot of them in elementary school.

Not big enough for the Super Fatso class in boxing.

I first heard of them from my high school French teacher. He was named, surname, after a place in Germany, but as good Australian boys we pronounced his first name phonetically to be Jack-wess.

We had him too. How deprived you were having to make do one only one out of the two.

I haven’t seen Asterix since, hmm, say 1961 or 62.
French you say? I always read him in English.
Perhaps the French printed them in English too (although that seems unlikely, seeing as how they think everyone should speak French)

Day before yesterday we hit a record high for the day of 90 F (32 C)
This morning it's 33 F (.555 C)
.555 C?? Proof once again that the metric system is messed up!
