Happy New Year to you all!! What a fantastic bunch of folks in here. I wish you all a far better 2021 than the 2020 that proceeded it. Health and happiness to all of you and your families.

Cheers, Charlie

I remember, years ago, visiting Florence in the dead of winter with Mrs Charlac V2 and our young family. A couple of times a scooter would zip by and all they seem to run over there is Castor-based two-stroke oils (comme le Castol R). I swear, it would get my blood racing every time I smelled it. Memories of my RM125 immediately flooded back into my head.
Amazing what the sense of smell will do. My first car was a '61 VW Beetle, which I had from in the '60's. A great little car, lots of memories, etc.

About 5 years ago I was walking around an outdoor car show with a buddy I've known since high school and he had many a ride in that old VW.

I was looking at an SS 396 Chevelle and he called me over. He was looking at a stock '60's V-Dub and said stick your head through the window (luckily it was open ) and take a whiff, so I did. He said it smells just like your old '61.

And it did. We then talked about our mutual, initial response from snarfing in the odors of that VW and how they triggered memories of 50 odd years ago,

I like it mixed into Pho
My wife loves Pho. We get it from a downtown Vietnamese restaurant .

I like Pho also, but I prefer their Item # 81, which is Chicken and Shrimp special fried rice. I know it is usually sold as a side dish, but it is so good, that that I usually just order that alone, with plenty of water refills. Reminds me. Haven't been there seen Covid. We should order a pickup, curbside.

I haven't been awake at 0001 on 1 January in many years (Unless, by coincidence, I had to pee, of course) but tonight might be different. As I just posted in the moderator forum; "Oh well. In another 6 hours and 38 27 minutes I can welcome in 2021 and flip 2020 the bird."

Just to be clear, we are talking about this stuff, right?

This stuff is nothing but fire, a heat that overpowers anything it is poured over, or mixed in with. Supposed to be chili sauce, but there is nothing subtle or tasty about it. It doesn't enhance food, it kills it.

The La Yu chili oil is subtle, the sesame oil that carries the chili complimenting the chili and whatever food it is paired with. And subtelty of flavors is what Japanese cuisine is all about.
