[rant] Anyone who has known me for a while knows that I, on VERY rare occasions, express mild discontent regarding the availability of creature comforts in Pierre, SD.
In breaking with my tradition of Pollyanna-like postings regarding my chosen city legally defined municipality I'm going to relate a story.
Mrs. P did her weekly grocery shopping this a.m. at the (only) grocery store in town. I asked her to pick up some ribs for tonight. No joy. They didn't have any. No problem, we'll go to chinamart later. They had 1 package. (yes, that's right, only one package of country style ribs). We put it in the cart and went to the deli section to get some coleslaw. None to be had; neither name-brand nor chinamart brand.
No problem. Back to the grocery store. No coleslaw. That's right; you can't buy coleslaw in South Dakota's Capital city. How in the !@#$%$#@!@#$% does an entire "city" (I'm being charitable) run out of coleslaw?
Someday I hope to once again live in civilization.
"sigh" I'll put the ribs on to boil in an hour or so. [/rant]

No cabbage either? For coleslaw I buy the shredded mix and make my own dressing.
Sounds like you need to start another grocery store.

Get a head of cabbage and make it fresh Jim.

Alton Brown has a great recipe.

Fresh made slaw is so much better than shop-bought. Wait, you probably struggle to get the mayo, mustard etc too...

Hmm, the second least-populated state capital in the US? Time to move!

Zoe was the same way.

I would pour a beer in her water dish, and if she drank some she got popcorn.

We drank beer and ate popcorn a lot. Mrs. Racer 2.0 was surprised at first, but got used to it.
My little buddy, Willy the terrier/poodle's diet...and my diet surprised my wife, when we first started going out. I think she thought the two of us were an ...odd pair...but on the other hand, an equally matched pair.

Mr Jim

It would seem that your family is the only family left that does not make their own fresh coleslaw in your town/city.

"Someday I hope to once again live in civilization. "

Do you really want to give up all the advantages in living in an isolated prairie city like Pierre....just to live in civilization once again ?

My home town, Winterpeg is smack dab in the middle of nowhere...I like to think of it as living in splendid isolation. I get the occasional brush with civilization through the Pentax forum and I find that , that's enough for me.

I've never had any homemade coleslaw that I liked as much as some of the store bought stuff.

I will admit to really liking KFC's creamy coleslaw.
When I make it, I make it the way my bride likes it, sweet/sour German style:
Ingredients
1 medium head cabbage, finely shredded
1 small onion, thinly sliced
3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup vinegar (most here use cider vinegar)
1 1/2 teaspoons celery seed
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/4 cup vegetable oil

Directions
In a large bowl, combine cabbage and onions.
In a saucepan, mix sugar, vinegar, celery seed and salt; bring to a boil.
Add oil; return to boiling and cook until sugar dissolves.
Pour over cabbage; toss gently. Chill.

Winterpeg has a small Big Shed, where they make composite stuff for the silver birds built at The Big Shed. I know because I hauled tooling there.

What does Pierre have? A goose problem and supply chain issues keeping premade coleslaw from tantalising Jim's taste buds.

Believe it or not, I was actually at the event in Winnipeg, when the announcement of the establishment of the Winnipeg Boeing plant took place. I received a complimentary brown vinyl case, plus some other freebies. This would of been around 1969-70.

Camp trailer.
What you show as a van or box trailer are known in Oz as a cargo trailer.
Horses are carried in horse floats.
A flat trailer ("car or utility trailer") is simply a trailer.
A box trailer is as pictured here;

Speaking of coleslaw: Have you ever tried a coleslaw and chocolate sauce sandwich?
