You wouldn't think that porridge would generate this much talk.

Now cars...that's a different thing.

A tough old sheep farmer from Scotland gave some good advice to his granddaughter.
He told her that the secret to a long life was to sprinkle a pinch of gunpowder onto her porridge every morning.
The grand-daughter followed this dictum religiously until her death at the venerable age of 103.
She left behind 14 children, 30 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren, 25 great great grandchildren
and a forty foot hole where the crematorium used to be.

Bet the undertaker was surprised!

Favorite campfire food: open can of Spam, extract square blob of meat like substance, put it on a stick, roast over coals till outside is nicely sizzled and dripping juices. Eaten straight off the stick. Yummmmmmm!!

That was introduced to me in college, as the Poor Student’s Field Camp Deluxe Dinner. University of Washington Geology Dept. early 80s

That's better. Enough of porridge. Regular programming continues.

How do you judge when your steak is done on a barbecue? I used one of those insertable thermometers once. Slightly over the top but it worked well .

When you cut a steak into strips, it is too small to insert a thermometer into.

I always go by look and feel. The juices are oozing out just right, and the meat has a certain feel.

Experience is key.
I should add that the firmness is an indicator of doneness. The firmer the meat, the more cooked it is.

I had the instant Quaker Oats, maple syrup and Brown sugar or breakfast. That along with the apple cinnamon is as "proper" as I get, well except when Tess makes her steel cut oats.
Love steel cut oats.

With honey, cinnamon, butter, chopped pecans.

A hot, hearty breakfast to start a frosty winter day.

And here I thought you threw the spam back into the fire and then ate the stick !

What did I miss? Apart from the Teletubbies and everybody's favourite, Barney? And old Canadian TV shows. And the old farts lineup. And some heavy duty fire pits and boiled donuts. And some car talk, aeroplane talk, and protein enriched raspberries. And corn, boiled or otherwise. And slow detours and Bob juggling with only two balls. Some trailer talk, musings over the short comings of grocery stores, coleslaw - and the odd digression.

Still 10 pages to go, so I'll have a break now

Porridge. That's what you missed. That took up most of the pages you haven't got to yet.

Oh yeah, and tongue? I'm not eating something that came out of an animal's mouth. No, give me an egg!

Still from home. Gets a bit dull. Every day feels the same.
I'm still working from home, too, even though I'm not required to any more. I just prefer it that way.

A half-day visit to the office in October is my only one since March 11th last year. Don't really miss it.

Happy World Chess Day!
A local news reporter is at the World Chess Hall of Fame here in St Louis.
They have some very neat, and outrageous, chess sets on display.
St Louis has become the chess capital of the world thanks to Mr Sinquefield.
