I've never been to Australia. But I've read the books, seen the videos.

I have been over the years impressed with some of the cars/trucks/utes that came out of Australia, for example at Ford Australia and GM Australia. The V8 powered GM that became the basis for the American police package Caprice....rear wheel drive, powerful LS V8, etc. I saw some of those in either Wyoming or Montana (forget which) around 2015/16 and I tell you, they appeared to be great 'deterrent' highway interceptors. I have seen one (highway patrol car) accelerate at very high speed.... and am very impressed.

Also the Australian sedan racing that had the old Ford/GM rivalry going great guns, on the race track.

These manufacturers (Ford/GM, also Chrysler some years before) came up with very interesting Australian 'interpretations' that produced some novel, unique and very appealing variations.

Japanese makers (Toyota/Nissan) also came up with some very interesting light trucks , which I believe have been modded for the Australian market. Flatbeds, with movable side panels, etc, serious 4WD , powerful turbo diesel, cab and chassis outfits, etc.

I did wish that we got more of these Australian market vehicles over here in North America.

That's similar to my routine since my knee replacement 3 weeks ago.
Yesterday I gave driving a try. No problems.
Monday's PT didn't go as well as it had been. The therapist I'd been seeing is very good and knows just where my tolerance threshold is. Monday it was a different one. A very nice young lady with the compassion of the Marquis de Sade.

But did she have big eyes?

I remember one of my therapists long ago, who used to put my hand next to her "shoulder" so I could feel it giggling as she worked on my shoulder.

She used to always ask, "Does that hurt?"
I should have told her, "when my hand is in that position, nothin ever hurts."
But why ruin a good thing?

My left hip was replaced around 2009 or 2010, after I had complained for nearly 20 years of the pain. After recovery the surgeon ask me if I was ready to have the right one done yet. It felt like a perfectly good hip at the time so I declined. Since then the prosthesis gives me occasional trouble and pain while walking. A couple of consults with the surgeon always resulted in is saying there is no sign of loosening or infection you shouldn't be having any pain.

Great doctor.

Lately the right hip has begun to hurt when walking. Yesterday, about halfway up the mountain it started bothering me. The hike back down was brutal, requiring several stops to give some relief.

Today, I can barely walk.

Bugger! My right knee always complains on descents. Luckily the hips are good.

We used to get those over here in the UK for a few years, badged as a Vauxhall Monaro. It was about the closest we could get to a proper off the shelf V8 'muscle car' and something of a bargain.

I had a tuna sammich and some grape juice when I got home yesterday. Sat for a minute in my recliner to decompress the day. Woke up around 8 or so, grumbled something about getting up and going to bed. Woke up again around midnight from the cold (it was a cold and rainy day yesterday, and then cool all night) and finally went to bed, barely able to walk.

Woke up at 5 am, hobbled to the kitchen, fixed a cup of coffee, and went out to shake and lube the dowel pins on the Subaru engine. Been in and out of the shop all day, also went out and cut the blackberries back around the edge of the lawn and cut some tree branches for Mrs. Racer as she mowed.

The neighbor stopped by on his way back from a trip to town, we had some Thai iced tea and I wiggled the engine one more time.

Finally.

I vanquished the Subaru Corrosion Dragon.





The original flywheel, clutch disc and pressure plate.





190,030 miles.

Probably good for another couple hundred thousand miles, but I will grind the flywheel, and replace the disc, cover, throwout bearing and pilot bearing.

Time for a shower, regroup, and get the cylinder heads off and see what I have, eh?

The clutch I put in this pickup had over 440,000 miles on it when I parked the vehicle at over 500,000 miles.

A bargain because Australian businesses have learned to be efficient to compete with imports and the workers are highly paid and work hard in an efficient place.
