He is incredulous.

He can't quite get his head around how I am diving into this having never been trained as a Subaru mechanic.

It is simply another machine.
Yep, I have never been trained as a mechanic, Subaru or otherwise, but that never stopped me from pulling an engine out of a junker to replace one in my daily ride. One step at a time and don't worry about those extra parts after the job is done ;-)

The clutch I put in this pickup had over 440,000 miles on it when I parked the vehicle at over 500,000 miles.

No "riding the clutch" involved...

Was this a U.S. owned company? If so, being profitable may actually have been the reason for closing it. It's an interesting quirk of our tax law that having a profitable business, or component of a business, can result in less money in the bank after taxes than if it had lost money.
Hi Jim

Closed Australian plants down ,

If thats how it works now glad to be rid of the other company .
We are only a small market and now are only getting the dregs from overseas..

I have never understood Australian business people complaining the Australian market is small. They seem to forget that people without Australian passports have perfectly good money for buying stuff with.

That is the people located in Australia. But why limit sales to people living in a certain place when the are 7 billion potential customers? A problem is that the local manager of a multinational manufacturer is not free to sell in places that head office does not instruct.

This article in Autocar says that the average assembly line worker in Thailand earned less than £8000 a year and the average in Australia was nearly £43000. That's a big difference.
