Or, alternatively, eat an igunaq and Vegemite sandwich. (You can put Velveeta on it if you want but that would just be nasty. Bleh!)
Or, go boil some ribs!

Eerily quiet here the last few days. Usually, the week before the July 4 holiday gets increasingly noisy with people lighting off the unsafe and insane fireworks available at the local Indian reservation.

Thursday afternoon I heard handgun fire a couple properties east of my place. Only unusual because the gunfire I usually hear comes from across the river to the west, and a half mile or so to the north.

And sometimes from my place, down by the river, using the bluff as a backdrop.

So yeah, kinda quiet.

Unsettlingly so.

Got cherries and strawberries coming on though.

How do your cherries get to that size without being eaten by birds? Or do you cover the whole tree with netting?

I like a good hot dog. I've been eating them all my life, but always in moderation.

Every year on American Independence Day, July 4th, in NYC (I believe) there is a hot dog eating contest, at Nathan's.

I've been astounded (maybe I'm easily astounded, I dunno ) to learn how many hot dogs the winner of this contest can put away, in a 10 minute time limit.

https://nypost.com/2022/07/02/joey-chestnut-will-defend-nathans-hot-dog-eati...-coney-island/

I will keep an eye open to see who the winner will be, how many hot dogs he/she puts away, during the time. limit.

Currently the record is held by Joey Chestnut of the USA, who ate 76 hot dogs...all with accompanying buns.... in 10 minutes.

76 hot dogs...in 10 minutes !

The most hot dogs I've ever eaten in one sitting was...three hot dogs ....in about 30-40 minutes. I think if I ate any more, I might have a case of indigestion.

Those cherries look like apples. Big cherries there, Racer.

Every year in the summer, in my burg, we get supplies of B.C. (British Columbia) cherries shipped to local stores. I love 'em.

Also another seasonal treat I look forward to, is corn on the cob.

That’s what a shotgun’s for Mark. Mounted on a turret above the tree, coupled to radar auto-targeting. The question you have to ask yourselves, birds, is do you feel lucky? Well, do ya, birds?

No netting, yet. Usually the wasps and yellow jackets get to them.

I did have trouble with the crows getting into the strawberries though.

Just regulation size cherries #2. About the size of a grape or olive.

I haven't seen any Rainier cherries in the store yet. Too early, maybe?

By complete coincidence we saw Devon cherries today: number one son helped Grandma clear the tree before the birds did and we had cherry pie with dinner tonight. Really good too!

I had to Google Devon cherries and the closest I could find were Mazzards, or are they just cherries that happen to be in Devon?
