Originally posted by Parallax I'll second that. We get to Bismark a few times a year and try to see the museum on one of the trips.
As an aside; the museum is right next to the State Capitol building so besides seeing an incredible museum you'll get to see what I'm sure is the ugliest state capitol in the country.
I have to disagree with you there Parallax. My wife and I have visited Bismarck a number of times over the years and we absolutely love the state legislature...and all of its art deco features. I'm an art deco fan, not an expert, but a fan...and I tell you...I love wandering through the place, taking in all the nice touches.
On the other hand I have to agree with you about the museum. The museum is quite a place. They have a bookstore with quite an interesting, not easy to get books. One of them 'The Relentless Blizzard of March 1966 '. This details the savagery of probably the worst prairie blizzard I've ever encountered in my long life. It hit mostly the Northern Plains ...but covered an area from Chicago to north of Winnipeg...and all stops in between. Over 650 pages of info and pix...covers both the American and Canadian areas.

As an aside, another book I picked up...this one at the Grand Forks UND bookstore about the North American plains, prairies as we call them...is perhaps the best book on this subject I've read
