Tess has th tamron 90 macro, I have the Sigma 70 macro... it wold just seem a bit redundant, except for the par where it saves me 150 grams over my Sigma 70 macro. How much can you pay to save 150 grams?
I purchased the 100mm DA macro when the price went below $400, despite owning an excellent Tokina 90mm f2.5 with 1:1 adapter that I've owned since some time in the 1980's. But, the Pentax 100mm is a LOT smaller/lighter than the Tokina + adapter. Is it also better? Probably at least as good, but significantly more convenient because of its size, weight, filter thread, and focusing to 1:1 without an adapter. The deep hood is overkill, but OK. The Tokina did not come with a hood, and the front element is far forward, unlike the Pentax with a front element far back from the filter threads, enough to obviate mounting the hood in many situations.
