K-3 arrived today... ...with a faulty display.

Finally got my new K-3 today. And what a disappointment, the top display doesn't work!!! Attached pictures tells it all...

Could be a power issue. Do you have another battery to try in the body?

What a tragedy. Looks an exchange coming up.

Maybe check to see if everything else works. If not, you've got a slam dunk - not that you haven't already.

What's Pentax service like in Finland?

Everything else if fine and I was just about to start a comparison shooting with K-3, K-5 and my lens line up, when I noticed this.

Service in Finland is quite good, some bigger repairs (like SDM changes) are done in Germany (or Sweden). But in this case I want a new body, since this one is faulty from the factory.

I mailed the shop where I bought it and will deliver it back to my post office today. Hope I'll get a new one next week...

The crippled one now back in the box and is on it's way back to Helsinki. Hopefully the replacement comes quickly.

The only time I saw something similar on my K-5's display was (1) when I was using a 3rd party battery grip, and (2) when I was using a teleconvertor with power-zoom/SDM contacts mounted on an old manual telephoto - I think it was the K 300 at the time.

I guess with the K-3 (1) is not likely to be an issue. On my K-5 both (1) and (2) indicated to me that the camera was very sensitive to electrical issues - maybe minor short circuits or current leakages.

But in this case it could be anything. The service centre will know.

This happened to me with my K5, first on the top display (warranty repair), after that on the viewfinder one.
I hope you get new body since the failure can be on motherboard.

Today the exact same thing (new camera arrived with the top LCD problem) happened to me

Tomorrow the camera is going back to Amazon UK. After the mirror problem in the K-5 I am very tempted to give up on Pentax but, after some hesitation, I decided to ask for a replacement instead of a refund. Let's see if the replacement arrives without defects.

BTW, I checked without any lens mounted (didn't make a difference). Also it was not related to the battery (which was charged enough to fire the flash, the shutter, etc.).
