Proposed K-3 AF test against the real comparable alternatives

Here's a test of Auto Focus I would like to see: the Pentax K-3 vs Nikon 7100 vs Canon 70D 7D and why not throw the 55% more expensive Nikon D610 in the mix. All tested with the Sigma 70-200 2.8 lens all tested at RAW and just so the Nikon 7100 doesn't sink to the bottom of the sea you can add JPEG. I understand the Nikon 7100 chokes after a couple of raw shots.
I think the test against the 7100 70D and 7D would show results of comparable cameras and the D610 show what is possible for those who can spend more.
I feel such a test might give us an apples to apples comparison along with a comparison to a higher performance and costly solution.

I agree! Might be worth having done for the homepage at a later date. I wonder if Canon's going to release a new APS-C body in the mean time? The 7D predates the K-5 and still hasn't seen squat for updates...seems like they really don't care about APS-C users any more.

I would agree with having a test using the Sigma HSM. Quite a few users are saying that the HSM in their Sigma lenses are performing quite astoundingly in the k-3 as compared to the k-5. While the DA*60-250 is no DA*50-135, it still is supposedly slow vs HSM, USM, and SWM.

I have used a Canon 7D for the past four years to shoot sports and birds, while keeping a Pentax K20D and many Limited lenses and then some around for art and studio work. My K-3 just arrived, and I plan on testing it out shooting a couple of soccer matches (or even practices) within days using the Sigma 100-300mm f4 lens and maybe the 1.4x TC. My goal is to replace the 7D and the 100-400mm L f4.5-54.6 lens which perform excellently. I'll also bring the Canon setup for match shooting. My goal is to write up subjective findings here. Stay tuned.

Aka K3 killer....

Seriously, it would be good, to compare cameras with same lenses. At least I can provide you with test of K-3 with DA*300, DA*50-135, Sigma 70-200 II:
First series is with DA*300.
Pentax Friends Site - Galerie, Forum • Zobrazit téma - K3 prvni dojmy
Its in czech language, but anyway, you can look on pictures, theres clear indication, which lens and exposure was used there.

Thanks.

Looking at the series, it seems that using the sigma 70-200 you get higher keeper rate than with the other lenses. Can you confirm?

$1200 vs $3400...not a fair test

Having heard that the 5D Mk3's AF isn't amazing, just that it is much better than the 5D Mk2, that sort of comparison may be closer than the price tags imply.

What the 5D Mk3 definitively has over the k-3 is the better video.
