New headache

Hi,
I just got K-3. Really excited. One problem - have to learn a lot of new tricks. But it's good exercise for my brain.
So far, I've got a couple of questions.
The cord for the battery charger is about 5-6 in. Is Ricoh saving on copper or it's just my luck?
How to check the current f/w version? I tried the usual hold Menu during power-up - doesn't work.
Thanks in advance,

Firmware version is now in the menu "Wrench #4" last option.

Charger cord sounds weird, just checked and mine is 72" long.

My charger cord is 60".

To check firmware version go to the 'wrench' menu 4. The last item: "Firmware info / Options"

Is it possible you got a grey market one that was supposed to go to another country and the retailer swapped the cord for a US one?

Just multiply it by 12!

Hi,
That was my suspicion, too.
Is there a way to verify it? what would be the negative side if it's actually grey market K-3?

Thanks again,

I think the only downside is the lack of an official pentax warranty.

Who sold you the camera? Maybe you should ask them . . . . .

Thank god for that. I hate these long cables. I travel a lot and I find it a pain to roll up these "springy" cables every time I pack. I have made a study of this at all the different places I go to and found I never need a cable longer than 240-300mm (1"). I used to roll up the cable and put a valcro band around it. Then I noticed I never completely unrolled the cable but only ever used about 250-300mm of it with the rest remaining valcroed up. I said to myself what do I need the long cable for if I never unroll it completely. So I have shortened a cable (cutting, soldering and araldite it back together agin) to a length of some 250mm. I took a cable with an American type plug for this as I find in international travel the American plug is the smallest and easiest to use with adapters. (From my Australian point of view.)

Now I just chuck the charger cable in my bag, no need to roll it up. I always look for ways to travel lighter and pack things easier.

Greetings

Umm, 12", not 1".

(Well, more accurately, 9-1/2" to 12").

Umm, would that be a "sinus headache"?

Hi,
I'd rather have K-3 headache than sinus headache. Also, for the latter you use pain killer, for the former - pentax forums.

Just take the card out & read from that… those cords are wonky anyway-- my k-r developed a loose connection pretty quickly from using the stupid thing. I don't use them anymore.
