Pentax K-3 with the Pentax Eyecup M (30086) Installed

Today I installed the new Pentax Eyecup M (30086) on my K-3, looks really good, I like it more than the standard one because I will not leave the LCD screen with grease

Looks sexy!! Does the extra distance have any effect on viewing the info LED's in the margins?

My main objective is to avoid grease on the LCD screen, but on top of that I agree that the camera looks MUCH NICER with this rubber eyecup.

Regarding the filed of view on the viewfinder, not for me, you just have to adjust the diopter a little bit.

Looks like the back display is covered at the top by the eye cup. Also will you be able to use a display viewer with the eyecup in that position?

it has some tradeoffs, I agree, but for me is more important the larger eyecup, it's also easy to remove and replace

I guess with today's displays covering more of the back part of the camera, the eye cup is unavoidable with covering some of the display! Brosen- I could not find on the BH photo website. Where did you get yours?

Amazon, there are like 18 different vendors, mostly from Japan, I've purchased from Ace Japan, World Entertainment Shop and The Japanese Spirit, they were all good.

Fleabay has them too, also shipping from Japan, I took a chance on one for $12 and change.

What I like about this eyecup is that it looks like it will work well for both horizontal and vertical shots. I have the battery grip and plan to use it some for verticals!

My only real complaint since my first Pentax DSLR has been the eyepiece "cup" that comes with them. I had always used a rubber cup that fit my eye very well, keeping out extraneous light. I have not been able to find a suitable device for the DSLR. This looks like it may work OK, but the ones that I had used on my film camera were more contoured to the brow, cheek and eye.

I have the opposite complaint. My cheek bones and the "contoured" cups never worked well together. My preference has been toward the round Nikon-style cup such as the unit above.

Well I got the eyecup in yesterday and I have already lost it on a field trip. It had no metal or plastic housing that slipped over the eye cup slot. I just fit it over the slot but it fell off. Was I doing something wrong Brosen? I'm really frustrated. It worked well while it was on.

I asked ACE of Japan the third party vendor of this eyecup for a replacement or money back. I asked if there was a part missing that helped keep the eyecup securely in place. Their response was:

"Thank you for contacting us.
The PENTAX eyecup M 30086 is all rubber eyecup and fits for K-3 camera, and does not have metal or plastic backing.

We are sorry to hear that you have already lost it while in use, but we cannot send you another one or refund for it."

So I would recommend not buying this product or dealing with ACE of Japan. It cost me $15 and 6 weeks of waiting for this product and one photo shoot to lose it. I have now asked Amazon to intervene and take this company off of their preferred list. Hopefully Amazon will refund me my money.
