K3 and Rokinon 24mm Tilt Shift Lens

This is a lens that I have wanted for a long time. While I had the Arasat 35mm tilt shift at one time, the IQ was not to my expectations. The Rokinon 24mm has a nice focal length and allows shifting or tilting in all directions. A few days ago I visited the Rocky Mountains in Alberta to try it out. The pic is shot at f5.6 and appears quite sharp and was paired with the K3. The focus peaking on the K3 allows you to select the degree of tilt for max sharpness across the frame.

Thanks, just learning to use it but it appears promising.

Absolutely stunning application of something I have been trying to begin to understand. Any explanation of exactly how you go about using one of these would definitely accelerate my purchasing a Samyang/Rokinon version of this lens. The above shot is very nearly enough to make me press the button, really well done.

Nice shot! Did you write a review for this lens anywhere? I would be very interested to see a real review of this lens on a Pentax body, instead of just listed specs. Especially comparing it to the Arax. This shot seems promising.

Adorama...$999.99.

The photo still indicates Canon, though the -P in the mfgr number is right.

By shifting the lens, you can minimize the converging lines you get normally when, say, angling the camera up to get a whole building in the shot. Tilting the lens allow you to change the plane of focus so everything front to back is in focus.

Any basic book about view cameras or architectural photography will explain it in detail.

bugger - now it's on my short list. Bad case of lens envy. Brilliant application of technology.

One website that explains how to use Tilt/Shift lenses is below:

Using Tilt-Shift Lenses to Control Depth of Field

I can't pretend to be an expert on these lenses but in essence the tilt function is useful in landscape photography to aid in getting more DOF while shift can be used for architecture to prevent "keystone effect".

As of now that DA* 200 2.8 I was trying to find is dead in the water. If you learned on 8x10 tilt shifts as I did, it's hard to think a camera without tilt shift capability is even a real camera,

Hi Norm:

I think the tilting and shifting of 8 by 10 cameras is a lost art.
