K3 with Kit 18-55mm WR

I was the DXO article where it mention the best zooms for the K3. Well it included the DA 18-55mm WR so I gave it a try and I was quite surprised. My be good for a weather sealed light travel lens.

15th at F4 and ISO 6400 (cropped and slight vignette)

Yep, while that lens is not on par with the best primes (mainly regarding contrast and colours) it's a great tool, often underevalauted. It's reliable and a good all-around performer.

yes, it's definitely under-rated....it does a lot of things very well

If there's enough light, the 18-55 is pretty good, except in the extremes. I do like my 18-135 better: the pictures aren't any sharper, but they seem to have a bit more of that magic sparkle. Maybe it's just microcontrast or whatever, but it seems to me to have a nicer rendering.

Yep, the 18-55 kit is a great value and well worth shooting with. As Kozlok noted, performance drops somewhat at the extremes of its range, but it is hardly junk. It will not deliver the full capabilities of the K-3 sensor, but what it will deliver will usually be more than enough. Here is a sampler from my K10D with the measly 10 megapixel sensor:
