As I suspected...basically it's not the camera, but how it's perceived. There are a few niggles, but then almost any DSLR is capable of taking great photos.

I was hired as a wedding photographer yesterday - a little nervous because of the storms battering Wales at the moment. I live in Pembrokeshire, which is south west Wales, and the gusting 70mph winds and driving rain coming off the atlantic meant there was no way that any bridal or group shots would be outside.
I'm kind of glad because it forced my hand to use off-camera flash diffused by an umbrella for almost every shot. I'm very pleased with the results:

All are shot with either a K5 & 16-50mm f/2.8 or a K7 and Sigma 70-200 f/2.8.

Perceived professionally only means perceived ...

Pentax 67 and 645 cameras have been professional cameras without being perceived as professional. The fashion industrie was too far away from the average photo nerd. But as a former Mamiya owner, who did not understand the Pentax medium format concept, I have to say I was very wrong. Pentax medium format seemed to me to have limited abilities compared with the modular Mamiya and Hasselblad. But owning them now I shoot much more intuitively, focused on the subject and the relation to the models. I love it. David Lachappelle used them, Patrick de Marchelier, Tim Walker etc.
