Dropped feature? Side by side image comparison in camera

On my K-7, I could press the down arrow while reviewing images in camera and choose a side by side image comparison mode. Sure, it wasn't the best way to compare images, but it was useful when running little tests. With a better screen on the K-3, I was hoping to be able to use the same feature.

But it isn't there... unless it is buried somewhere strange in the menus? Has anyone else noticed this or heard why they dropped this feature (if it is indeed missing)?

I'm quite sure there was another thread about this. The K5 still had it but I think it was dropped after that.

They removed it from the k5ii and later models for some reason. No idea why...

The K-r had it also. But the K-30, which was the next camera released after the K-r doesn't have it, and neither it seems does any other Pentax SLR released since then.

I used to to find it very useful especially for getting the right focus in time exposures.

A (not ideal) work-around is to zoom in one image and then use the front wheel to scroll to the previous one. The zoom is retained.

You can always compare the files side by side in FastStone image viewer.

Thanks for the replies. I will have to try the front e-dial scroll as a gimped work around.

Thankfully not. If I am not sure which image is best, I keep both and compare them on PC.

Why did they suddenly drop this useful feature but yet continue silly digital filters? Did they ever put put a statement on this issue? I have been thinking about purchasing a K5 II or IIS but after discovering they had image comparison no longer my interest has wained. Do other manufacturers have the same ability in their playback menu?
