Say, Whatever Happened To The Shadow Warning?

Going through the K-3 menus and I noticed that there is no longer a shadow underexposure warning (gold) along with the highlight overexposure warning (red). I always thought that was a cool feature on the K10D and K20D.

It is a really cool feature. I always use it on my K5IIs.

Are you sure K3 doesn't have it?

It's there on the K-3, should be in the live view setup menu and in the payback menu ("highlight alert")

Highlight alert, yes, but, for some reason they discontinued the shadow alert. I noticed this too.

Huh, that's weird. I actually use this a fair amount on my K-5, particularly when I'm in bright sunny conditions and trying to expose to preserve highlights. It's nice to know when I have gone too far and started crushing my shadows.

Maybe K-3 has so much dynamic range it can pull detail out of any shadow, so no need to blink it during picture taking

I don't own the K3, so personally I can't compare it to the K5.

But based on PF review, it has lower dynamic range..

Very slightly, but yes. Still, shadows are much easier to recover than highlights.
