DPR K-3 Review Finally Up (Gold Award)

Just a heads-up that DPR (which I think stands for Delayed Pentax Reviews) has finally finished their K-3 review, giving it an 83% score and their gold award. They are very positive about it on the whole (though as always they have a few niggles, particularly in video, JPEGs, and AF, and are cooler towards some features, like the AA-simulation and multi-area WB, than one might expect).

Here's the link: Pentax K-3 Review: Digital Photography Review

Not surprising...the K-3 is at the top of the APS-C pile by a fair amount imho.

Yep, they probably figured that was good indication it was safe to give the K-3 a positive review.

Numbers?

Thanks for posting this, macTak, I'll add it to the existing K-3 reviews-thread.

We can't recommend the camera unequivocally: the K-3's autofocus takes a big step forwards but we're not convinced much of the company's lens range really allows users to take full advantage of these capabilities. Equally, it wouldn't be our camera-of-choice if video was a priority.
Ouchie. I hope they don't recommend Fuji or Sony FE then.

Open warfare in the comments~

Admittedly, DPR's test of the k-3 AF was a bit more extreme than any test they have done for the D7100 or the 70D. I thought the review was pretty good, though lacking. Heavy emphasis on the ergonomics and handling, a bit of flying past the selectable AA filter, and not enough emphasis on the framerate/buffer and ISO accuracy.

I agree...but wouldn't it be great if SDM lenses could fully take advantage of the improved AF speed?

still at 83% vs D7100 at 85% and on par with 70D at 83%, so in the end, DPR is saying D7100 is better among all APS-C DSLR....

I've never turned the AA filter on. I don't think its a really important feature. Its cool technology, but a 24MP APS-C really doesn't need it that much. IF it had been on the K-5IIs then it might be a different story.

I can agree with most of what they say. I'm not a fan of the JPEG colors and Pentax has a lot of work to do with lenses when it comes to AF. The Multi-Area WB is of questionable value.

Its a great camera and DPR did a good job with the review.

Let's see...
K-5 beats D7000 on DPR.
A few years later, D7100 beats K-3.
K-3 is a more significant upgrade from it's predecessor than D7100.
I don't get it.

Interesting to say that it isn't for "photographers who like to travel light." Not sure what that means.

As I pack a bag to head your way I think I understand what the writer is getting at.
The K-3 is slightly heavier than the K-5ii/s predecessor mentioned and extra batteries are required to cover the increase in power consumption.
Is it an issue? - not really IMHO.

Reading the comments, I don't understand the inferiority complex.
I have a K-5iis and thousands of dollars in lenses...but i personally don't care if someone writes a bad or great review of the camera.

People say they shoot Pentax because they want to be different, yet get all bent out of shape when people talk bad about Pentax.
Can't have both in this world unfortunately, if you want to be different, you open yourself up to criticism.
If you really want to be different, you should toughen up and don't let the negative comments and reviews bother you.
