Video Aspect Ratio Changes -- still looking

Has anyone figured out yet if the K-3 allows for video aspect ratio changes? The K-3's full HD 1920X1080 is not friendly to the YouTube format and my videos are being reduced and put inside black frames. It's actually made me dislike the K-3's video output somewhat. I know I've asked this before, but I'm really hoping that someone has found a hidden menu option or trick I haven't.

The K-3 only offers 1080i/p and 720p resolution as far as I know. Youtube fully supports HD files though, you just have to change the resolution of the player using the cog icon first. You can also change the size of an embedded player to match the aspect ratio of your video.

I hope they add a different video aspect ratio in a firmware upgrade.

It looks like the problem isn't YouTube for the black frames, but my video editing software.

Thank you for the quick response, Adam.

I don't know of any modern consumer camcorder, compact, bridge cam or DSLR which records in anything other than the standard 16:9 format.
Even smartphones use the same internationally standard 16:9 ratio for all modern displays.
Older 4:3 ratios would not be useful at all. The emerging 4K recorders (GH4) record slighter wider which results in a 256:135 ratio.

Yeah, I just need to get a new video editing software. I've got Lightroom, so I need to see if that will work. The video editor that came with Windows simply isn't cutting it any more.

Windows Live Movie Maker that comes with Windows Live Essentials 2012 works fine with my K-01/Q/MX-1 and K-50 videos
Download it here ► Windows Essentials - Download Windows Live Essentials

You will need Windows 7

Movie Maker is what I use and that's the software giving me the black border. I'm going to try saving it as a different file format tonight and see if that helps.

1920 x1080 in and 1920 x1080 out, simples
What else are you doing - there should be no black border unless you have a 16:10 ratio monitor and are viewing the 16:9 ratio footage at full screen.?
Windows Live Movie Maker only exports to WMV, there are no other file format options.

I figured it out. I had the aspect ratio set incorrectly in the software. Now that I know how to change the aspect ratio, the problem should go away. How silly! I managed to get the last ones to export to MP4 by letting the software choose the best format.

You're right, and the software was keeping it at 1920X1080, but adding borders due to thinking I wanted to force it to do a different ratio.
