Sigma 18-35 in Canada

The Sigma 18-35mm lens is now at some stores in Canada as I picked mine up at Don's Photo in Edmonton. What a beast of a lens! Build quality seems great but it is a monster. The 1st and 2nd example pics are taken wide open and the 3rd at f3.5. It is great having a constant aperture f1.8 through the whole range. Since it is a fast lens it is a challenge focussing wide open as the DOF is so small. It is also a challenge with the FA 77 ltd.

Pentax may be missing out n the market for fast lenses as that is the trend for Fuji, Olympus and others.

The fullsized images are too large to upload to this site.

You can always use Flickr or something like Google drive or Dropbox.

I also own the Sigma 18-35 on Pentax, some people have claimed that these lenses have quality control issues (front/back focusing and more often de-centering) Although i cannot see any issues with the uploaded images DDoram, I'd recommend taking pictures of a brick wall or otherwise flat object and check the comers for uneven softness. That aside it's a great lens and like you i'm impressed with its image quality. Enjoy!

Hi Mirton:

I am not a brick wall shooter but prefer to see how a lens performs in real world use. The 18-35 appears to be a real solid performer.

Dale, I don't think Mirton's suggesting you hang the photos in your living room, but do some shots testing the corners so you know your copy won't have to be returned.

If you like, do the same three photos at f8.

We should meet up sometime so I can test drive your lens outside of the store (also from Edmonton). Hard to figure out how a lens will perform if you only play with it in store.
