Sports Football Soccer with K-3+DA*300+1.4xTC

A few shots (cropped) of Football Soccer Game shot with K-3 + DA*300 + 1.ax HD TC

Lens slow to focus for first time, but after it locks in, the K-3 did OK tracking (i have not uploaded the sequences.)

Custom Settings for tracking at high FPS - very few misses.
16-3
17-3
18-3

Pics here:

Shots taken from the of the field looking a the opposite half of the field and goal.

What do you think about the sharpness and focus i got on these pics with this combination of camera+lens+TC? Suggestions?

Great, sharp, colorful action photos! Who said Pentax equipment can't be used for sports action? Love the photos.

Good results. What you are doing is working fine.

Normally I wouldn't use a TC for sports, due to the impact on IQ and AF, but the DA*300 is such a nice lens, it seems to let you break all the rules.

That must be a sweet camera-lens combo...

I think that using 1/400th is a little on the long side for such a combination. We are talking about 643mm compared to Full Frame, so I would give it a notch in shuttertime to at least 1/500th (but probably 1/640th).

I would aim to have a minimum shutter of 1/1000 with 1/1500 preferred for this age group. With a TC, that means a much higher ISO. I would think you could have gotten away with ISO 1600. My daylight default is ISO 800 for soccer. Your shots with a faster shutter do look good technically.

Content-wise, the third shot is the most interesting. The first one would have been noteworthy if the ball was somewhere in the frame.

Wow that set looks great. Personally I prefer zooms for sports but I can see why the IQ of a prime can help the photos shine.

The da*300 certainly did that in this set. What an amazing lens.

Below is a sample of the DA*60-250 at 250mm + 1.4x Pentax TC.
I think the TC is also OK in the 60-250 zoom at 250; it is sharper by 200; but the DA*300 is better..

Nice job Rudy, the da* 300 looks like a stellar lens and you seem to put it to good use.
