Nothing special. I shoot .PEF RAW. Mine also gives a 600 shot initial estimate but I regularly get around 1000 shots per card by the time they're full.

Since the camera compresses the files it always depends on what/how you shoot. I guess the 600 photos is a rough estimate taking into account high ISO photos... low ISO photos tend to be more compressable. From 600 to 1000 is quite a difference though... seems like Pentax/Fujitsu has improved their compression algorithms.
