So the activated DR introduces noise?

I think he meant noise as sound on start up for non-ultrasonic models.

Not sensor noise. The K-50(500/30/01) uses a louder audible shake that might be alarming in very quiet situations, especially macro.

For the cameras with weaker batteries (K-30/50/500), the extra current draw of shaking the sensor on both start up and shut down is a real consideration. I don't see a reason to have the sensor shake on start up; choosing shut down not only allows for shooting sooner, but I don't really care about battery draw or audible noise when shutting down - as I am done shooting at that point.

I have turned both on, on my k3, and have not noticed any lag at all, so that all feels great. Thanks for the perspective everyone....

I have it on both startup and shutdown. It helps reassure me there's nothing wrong with the camera. I have the K-30, so it sounds like a marble in the mirror box. As long as i hear it, i know the camera is started up, and ready to go.

This is the same that I do, since I read on this forum that the best option against the dust was to have both DR activated.
