Very definitely. All Pentax dslr cameras have built in autofocus motors unlike low end nikon models.

Welcome and congrates on your first post. I suspect you are going to like the K-3 as the performance from all the bodies from around K-5 release are just stunning.

IMHO buying a new camera in early December brings a good opportunity for finding a bunch of new lenses in Christmas box .

Thanks KevinR

KevinR,

Thanks, I know the D7100 had an internal motor but I was not sure about the pentax K3. Looks like the price point for both are about the same on sale, so just need to keep looking into reviews.

Thx,
Mike

The cameras will give very similar results ito resolution and to an extent dynamic range and iso perforance. Your key factors will be what you plan to use it for and what lenses you would like to get. If you are going for highspeed action or sports or advanced flash, video, then Nikon might be best. Otherwise, Pentax is very flexible and better in several areas such as WR, ruggedness, low light AF, compact lenses, built in shake reduction etc.

So seems you are sold. Bought yet?

ISO performance from K-x and K-5 onwards is great up to about 1600, good at 3200-6400 and you can push beyond 6400 but only when very necessary. On my K200d (similar I suspect to K-20 ISO performance), I limit to iso400 and pushed to 800 or higher only when needed. Normally though, I keep ISO as low as possible, but not scared to leverage this performance on K-5 and K-3.

You should try the new TAv mode which is very useful. Fixed Tv and Av and floats ISO as needed. Perfect for long lens and other special work when you fixed or high shutter speed and also want to control Aperture.

The burst frame rate is impressive, and as you say quiet.
