My computer has a couple of USB3 ports and the driver is current but my K3 is not even seen by Windows when plugged in using a USB3 cable. If I use a standard USB2 cable in the same port, it works fine but Windows says that it could work faster. Ever seen that problem? My camera BIOS is current. Thanks.

If you wanna use usb 3.0 you might wanna pick up a cheap usb 3.0 sd card reader.

Direct connection to the k3 is likely 2.0 even with a 3.0 cable.

I think the K3 can use a USB 3.0 cable, but transfer speeds are unchanged with that.

I plug the USB 3 cable directly into the camera, and every so often, it doesn't see the K-3. Moving it to another USB 3.0 port solves the issue. Not sure why it happens, but that solution works for me.

Use a USB 3.0 cable.
Attach the cable the camera, plug the cable into the computer, then turn the camera on.
The transfer speeds from the K3 are pretty good - better than most card readers.

Make sure you see both folders for the K3 since it has two SD cards slots that are seen as separate drives on a PC.

I used to have problems directly transferring images to my PC via USB 3.0 cable. Transfers, particularly those involving substantial numbers of DNGs, would stop after just a few images. It seems the K-3 is somewhat power-hungry during the procedure and thus asking for more power than one USB 3.0 PC port alone will consistently provide. Since I went via an inexpensive USB 3.0 hub with its own power supply (which requires another free USB port on your PC, needn't be USB 3.0), everything has been working like a charm, and I can take advantage of the noticeably faster transfer speeds.

If you use a USB card reader I'd be wary of the Lexar Professional USB 3.0 Dial-Slot Reader. I've had two and they randomly fail. I've used different cabling options and different PCs - always the same result.

Lexar support was hopeless.

The problem was that paging errors regularly occurred. They were only noticeable when looking in the error logs. However, you could tell something was amiss as every now and again the reader would slow down. Sometimes it just became unusable.

Lexar were just didn't seem to care. I tried numerous times supplying diagnostics, but they just gave superficial replies then ignored me.

Never going to use them again.

my experience:

K-3 via usb3 cable: works well
usb3 card reader: works well, but is faster

I had some problems with my USB 3.0 connection, not recognising the devices or disconnecting etc.
A firmware update for the computer USB 3.0 chipset cured it.

USB3 controllers based on the NEC/Renesas chipset seem to have quite a few problems. It is advised you update the firmware/drivers for your USB controller especially if based on this chipset.

That is the one that I had problems with. The firmware update cured it.
