PENTAX K-3 II now in dpr's studio test scene comparison tool!

"We also see better noise performance, as we'd expect from a mode that samples the scene multiple times."

I put in the K3, K3II, K50 and Canon 7D Mark II. Is it me, or does the Canon have the best IQ?

The Canon looks brighter, but it has mushier details. The Nikon D7200 looks best to me IQ-wise. But with everything else factored in, the K-3 is the better camera

The Pentax still has some noise at ISO 3200 and higher, but there is much more detail in the Pentax shot than the others.
But that begs the question, with a stationary scene, as required by pixel shift, wouldn't you want to be at base ISO anyway?

Nikon D7200 looks sharper to me on my system. Also this explains that:

We need to see all new HD lenses.

Thanks. This confirms that my eyes werent at fault while judging D7200 as 'High ISO king' of the current APSC ILCs.
It appears Nikon now has the 2nd dibs on any top notch Sony sensor with Sony obvisouly being the first. Pentax et all seem to be a full year behind Sony's own debut of their best sensors hereonwards.

But for the "same sensor" with this difference about "sharpness" completely up to optics. As I said before, we need to see the new HD versions of current SMC lens series also which should be improved especially about sharpness/resolution capacity on high megapixel sensored bodies.

For Jpeg D7200 is the best, but switch to Raw then the K3II wins for me(in the center parts--edges not so good) Pentax Jpegs are never that good if one wants max IQ

I find it remarkable that DPR make no effort at all to use the same lens across cameras for their tests.

Imaging Resource do. The Sigma 70mm macro is used wherever possible for all tests - it is/was available for Pentax, Canon, Nikon, Sigma and Sony A mounts.

I've looked at this comparison, and also to Nikon 7000D, and 7100D, and Canon 70D, at every ISO, RAW and JPEG, and I don't understand why Pentax has the sharpest noise

I don't really see much difference in them. To me, the Canon photos show a little more softening, even in RAW, indicating some massaging of their RAW file at higher isos. But I can't honestly say that any of them looks great at iso 6400 and think that they would all clean up about the same with noise reduction software.

I agree...even if it isn't a top of the line sharp lens, at least that would eliminate one variable. This test looks like it is a test of the lens as much or more than the sensor.

Not sure if everyone noticed but for the DPR comparison app you can select normal or pixel shift for the K3II.

When you choose pixel shift the K3II is the clear winner. There is much more detail all over the test image.

The Samsung NX1 is second best to my eye.

I don't think that my previous message was well understood. Probably is my mistake, I was in a hurry. What I wanted to say, it that IMO, there is some bias in this tests. I don't have time now to make a comparison between the tests from DPR and Imaging Research, but I can give you one small example.

For Pentax K-3, K-3II and Canon 7D Mark II, Selftimer was used.

But for Nikon 7200D, Selftimer + Mirror Lock-up + Exposure delay was used. Can the result be fair in this way?

Look at ''i'' button at right corner of every picture.

I've owned a 50 1.4G and I still own a DA*55. The DA*55 is as sharp as the Sigma 50 at f/4 (and smaller) and absolutely kills the Nikon.
