Contrast detect AF on K3 (and K3II) vs. K-01

Quick question for people who have experience with both - how does the CDAF on the K3 compare to the CDAF on the K-01?

It's been improved. Especially in multi-point mode and in conjunction with the faster screwdrive motor, you get noticeably faster focusing speeds and higher reliability. In fact, in daylight CDAF is almost as fast as PDAF. The K-3 still suffers from the same drawbacks as the K-01, however: lenses with a long throw (i.e. teles) tend to hunt a bit, and the lack of PDAF zones on the sensor means that CDAF can't really be used for anything that's in motion.

Just to make the point Adam raised about multi-point focus mode a bit more dramatic, the K-01 has 81 focus points but the K-3 allows you to fine tune to 2244 focus points in AF. Not to overstate it, the actual point of focus appears to have been reduced to about 33% of the size of the K-01, but the ability to place that focus point is much more exacting. For work on a tripod and macro shooting in general, this is an especially helpful upgrade.

Actual low light performance is pretty close, though. Once the K-01 firmware was updated, the low light performance improved markedly; it came belatedly, though, and the initial reviews were brutal.
