K5iiS Upgrade question

Hi everyone,

When I upgraded from my K10 to K5iIS, it was like, WOW ! ! ! ! !

AF so much faster and so much more ! ! !

Two weeks after I got the K5iis, the K3 was announced.

My question is, has anyone upgraded from K5ii to K3 or K3ii and is there a "WOW" factor as much as from K10 to K5ii ?

I was always deceived about missing out on it but I always wondered if I really missed out very much.

Thanks

The K-3 is a pretty big step up, but it's only one generation newer. The K-5 IIs is three generations newer than the K10D so I think the wow factor would still be bigger there.

Here are some of the main things that you're bound to enjoy with the K-3:
  • Larger monitor & no black bars
  • Greatly improved live view focusing
  • Full manual control in video mode
  • Higher resolution -> more cropping flexibility
  • More accurate colors and white balance
  • Better control over moire
  • Easier manual focusing in live view
  • Faster AF with screwdrive lenses

I upgraded from a K5iis to a K3 and the biggest improvements I felt right away are the white balance and the exposure. Both are now pretty much spot on in most situations. The placements of the buttons also improved, IMO, especially the AF button.

No WOW factor for me when I bougth a K3 as a "complement" to my K5 IIs. I shoot a lot in low lightand high ISO and the K5IIs is much better in low light.

I think that autofocus is a bit better in capturing flying birds

Same here.

I do notice however that the K5IIs seems somewhat slow in comparison. It was never "slow" before I shot the K3/II, but now that I shoot both, it just feels slow at times to process stuff.

I couldn't say that one or the other is any better in low light though they both perform very well.

I have a K5IIs and just got today a K3, without going deep, it looks as though you can set it up so it would operate faster, for personal reasons. The Wow I got was the ability to change the color on the back screen, just too cool. I like the USER settings which can be accessed for faster selection. Still exploring.

I also went from the K10 to the K5iis and now the K3. The jump from K10 to the K5 is huge as the jump from the K5iis to the K3 is more incremental. The focus is a bit faster but that might be from having more control over it's settings. For cropping having the extra MP is certainly a bonus. Other then that both cameras are very similar
