Sigma 200-500mm f/2.8

I wonder if Sigma has plans on making this Lens for Pentax K-3s.
Amazon.com : Sigma 200-500mm f/2.8 APO EX DG Ultra-Telephoto Zoom Lens for Nikon DSLR Cameras : Camera & Photo

And if so, would you buy one? I just told my wife she could get me one for my birthday. I won't tell you what she said.

This one is not a lens that you buy to mount on a camera, instead, you have to buy the camera to mount on the lens.

That's the last lens I'd expect them to offer in the K mount

The infamous SigMonster...

For the same amount of money I could buy (2) K-1 bodies, a SMC Pentax-FA* 600mm F4 ED ,
a SMC Pentax-FA* 300mm F2.8 ED ,
and a SMC Pentax-FA* 200mm F4 Macro ED ...
Oh, and have about $10k leftover to play with...

Just sayin'

With 15.7kg , camera shutter vibration should not be an issue. Perhaps, a grip in mandatory to prevent the camera shut down when the AF motor starts spinning. I see an application of this lens for portraits, the bokeh is very smooth: http://www.juzaphoto.com/galleria.php?t=94518

I agree with Adam, sort of like buying film to fit a camera. The comparative price differential is about the same!

I can see this as a rented item way before I would purchase one, and gaining 2 stops over an f5.6 equivalent whn I could bump my ISO on a digital from 400 to 1600 might be a better use of my money!

Regards,

There seem to be several 'Sigmonsters' floating around. I always understood the 'Sigmonster' to be their 300-800 f5.6? (which I believe someone in this forum actually owns, for Nikon mount)?

But the 300-800 is a bargain at less than half the price of the 200-500, and is only 6kg, so is not quite as monstrous as the 200-500.

Too heavy for floating around...
