I wanted to buy a K3 but got so many threatening PMs from these guys that I was forced to buy the K1 instead.

Have you been receiving any threatening PMs from them or was it just me? I bought the K1 and they still send me threatening PMs......what's up with that?

Regards!

Happy 59 1/2 Birthday!

2 1/2 years later and I am still very happy with my K-3.

The K-3 is a very capable camera. I'm sure the K-1 is better still, but for me APS-c is a better format.

I'm looking forward to seeing the successor to the K-3ii. For now, though, I'm plenty happy with the K-3. And at the prices they go for now they're an absolute bargain.

Umm, Rupert, those PMs had nothing to do with the K-3 and everything to do with you - highly personal

On no! That's what I was afraid of! I traced a few of them to squirrels...it was a dead giveaway when they demanded I leave a 50# bag of peanuts out in the woods or face Forum execution....but the others must have been real members here?....were you one of them???? Some accused me of being a "Rupert Type".......sort of hard for me to deny it......

Regards!

I strongly suspect most of them originate from moderators

"Rupert"? That's British Army slang for an officer of dubious quality. :-)

I've owned a K3 for a year and a half. It is a heck of a great camera. There might be other cameras with more range, or other features... but it packs a ton of punch, and produces great results. I never use the pop up flash except for triggering off camera flash. If I were to get one again, I'd probably go for the K3II to get a built in astrotracer and PS.

The price on them now is great.

It all depends on what you need...and Pentax has a model for almost everyone. From the photos I see the K3 is excellent and has great features at a current price that is amazingly low.

However......if you want to mount a cheap slow lens like the Tamron 18-250 and shoot at f5.6 in near total darkness with decent AF and sharpness...you'd better get the K1. It will do it.

I concede that not everyone wants to hang around with raccoons near midnight ...but if you are one of them...the K1 will make you happy!

Nice raccoons!

My K3 is good enough for me but I suppose I would buy a K1 if I was investing in a new camera now and not two years ago. The question may be "is the K1 twice as good as the K3 as it is twice the price?" Thinking about the laws of diminishing marginal utility and opportunity cost I suspect that the K1s real value as against perceived value is dependent to some extent in skill/commitment/interests of the user and the uses to which it will be put. I think I want a K1 more than I need a K1 so the K3 is good enough for me at the moment, but as I buy new lenses they may tend to be FA rather than DA as future proofing.

If the IRA pull was merely for fun the K-1 would definitely be my choice. Alas, real debts must be paid so the extra $1k makes a difference.
Perhaps in a year, if I've been really good..

K3 is good to buy now , especially second hand for a very good price, since there must be a number of them in very good condition up for sale.

I love my K-3 (bought new many moons ago), and I just bought another (used, from a forum member), believing that a pair of K-3's is exactly what I will need for the next few years.

While I would love to shoot "... in near total darkness with decent AF and sharpness" I really cannot justify the price of a K1; especially as I will very soon become a pensioner

That said, other than having to clean up the occasional bit of noise, especially with gig photography, I am extremely happy with my K3. Better still, an unexpected bonus means I have just bought a second, brand new K3 body to go with it. And it cost about 1/3rd the price of a K1 (and was only £20 more expensive than a second-hand K3 from the same company). So no more fiddling around swapping lenses, dropping the lens caps, cursing the dust, MISSING THE SHOT. I am a very, very happy bunny at the moment!!!
