Once the five-year budget crisis was defused my wife and I talked about the cameras I had
slaughtered sacrificed for the common good. She agreed that the K-1 was a reasonable item, and that was OK by me. For the most part. In all honesty the APSc sensors, lenses and rendition were perfectly acceptable to me, and the K-3 had most of the updates that would satisfy me. I told her that I could live with that, and that it could wait
until Christmas.
Like several other items in the budget fix, my calculations were optimistic.
After looking and reading of the benefits of the II model, and especially that motion correction can be applied to its pixel-shifted files using DCU5.x, my attention shifted there. It was especially locked in when I saw the Pentax webstore had it in silver - so that became my perfect plan.
For Christmas.
Today I wondered about that 'special edition' silver. Pentax / Ricoh tend to make very short runs on silver models, and maybe Christmas was a pinch too long to wait. Sure enough, I see notes from
several sources that
only Five Hundred silver K-3ii bodies were planned!
And now it's on its way.
For Labor Day!
Yes, the K-1 has some features I'd love to have on hand. SR-II, screen updates like tilt and night mode, custom Info screen and the like. Maybe some of them will pop up in K-3 firmware, fingers XXd. In any case this is more camera than I've ever contemplated, will look very distinctive and allow me to keep wearing my Forums t-shirt from a few years back
I did order a K-1 shirt though.. so I have a K-1 (logo) for my chest anyway!
