Here's a PS moon shot from tonight. At 100% there's a slight pixelation on the moon edges that I would want to fix before printing. Still a very usable shot.

This means that at its farthest or closest approach to the Earth, it is only 5.5% smaller or larger than average. Unless you compare images carefully, you won't notice this, and with the naked eye the difference is essentially a non-factor. Because the apparent brightness of the moon depends on its apparent area, the brightness changes, too, but not by a whole lot either: around +/- 11% - again barely noticeable without careful comparison.
I consider the Supermoon hype to be mostly just that - hype!
So, go take pictures of the moon anytime. And, in fact, you will find the most interesting lunar pictures to be those taken when it is in partial phases. There will be interesting shadows caused by mountains and crater rims near the terminator (the area between the bright and dark areas of the surface - basically where sunset is on the moon at the moment). Pictures taken during full moon tend to be very flat."

I posted the above quote on facebook followed by a picture of a partial phase moon I took with my Q-S1 months ago. None of my friends were observant enough to not be fooled into thinking it was tonight's super moon.

Amazing shot!

I took my Tamron 500mm out and could not get a single decent shot. I disappoint myself.

Very nice. Those trees almost look like the prongs of a jewelry setting. And the green rippling on the upper edge of the moon is the same phenomenon that causes the "green flash".

I failed as well, Sunday the wind was too strong to keep my lens still, so all blurry. Monday was cloudy, so nothing.
