First Butterfly of the Season

I photographed this male, Eastern black swallowtail with my K-3 and a 55-300mm lens. I followed it and ended up taking lots of photos.

Nice shot! I'm a little north of you and so far I've seen one Fritillary. Can't wait for the Monarch migration to reach here.

I like chasing butterflies with my lenses also. I thought the female black swallowtails had the greater amount of blue dots on the hindwings.

I think this one is a male, based on the size of the yellow spots, and the faint blue on the hind wings. The female has smaller, less brilliant yellow spots, with more remarkable blue on the hind wings. Here's another shot of the same butterfly.

Very nice. I never seem to be able to catch them resting long enough to get a nice shot. Need to perhaps do some purposeful tracking.

Well, I liked your shots but almost didn't due to the creeping charlie. I swear that you could apply agent orange to your yard on a weekly basis and never kill that stuff. Been pulling some out today while cleaning debris from the gardens.

It wasn't in my yard. It was in a big field that I venture into.

I followed this one for a while in order to take photos. I had to be aware of my shadow when I got close to it. It spooked very easily.
