Shutter Count

Is a shutter count of a K-3 at 47,000 considered too high? Since the manf. count is 200K, it appears it still has about 3/4th of its life left.

Definitely not, but it is indicative of a camera that's been fairly well used. You should check for signs of physical damage, wear, etc. to make sure it's been treated properly.

I hope not. Mine is around 6,000 higher and I just keep rolling along. I would say Adam is correct in that you should check for damage and excessive wear from abuse or neglect but I've found the K-3 to be a really reliable camera and mine has been used hard over the last 20 months since I got it. The paint has worn off in a couple of corners and it has some light scuffs but the scuffs are because I haul it around out into the deep woods of northern Minnesota and I get scuffed way more than it. It has been out in excessive cold (-15F) for extended periods of time, rain, condensing humidity, cub scout camps, etc. and has never failed to perform.

Shutter count is like mileage on a car. It is an important factor but there are so many other factors involved like proper care and abuse. I've seen cars on sale with only 5,000 miles on them, but most were in a drag strip, 1/4 mile at a time. That is more wear and abuse than 50,000 miles by the proverbial old lady who used the car only to get groceries.
Your mileage may vary

Thanks,

This shouldn't be a Problem, my cameras have the following shuttercount
K1 120506
K3 85369
K5 88667
K20D 87206
and all are going strong

You should have a look on the body, wether it is damaged or not. My K3 is still used on music Festivals with excellent results.

Thanks everyone for the input. I had a feeling this would be ok. Sounds like the seller has has taken care of the camera as well. This was the info on the listing:

QuoteQuote:
Pentax K-3 Body. SUPERB CONDITION. Clean. Condition is Used. Shutter count is 47,458. The manufacturer's shutter life is 200,000. Well maintained. This camera has no issues. Everything works effortlessly as designed. When not in use, I stored this camera in a moisture and dust-proof case. All of my lenses are properly cleaned, especially the rear elements to prevent dust from entering the body. This has been my go-to camera for portraiture, landscape, street and macro photograph for the past three years. This camera has never been dropped or abused, in any way. There is a very small scratch at the bottom-left side (see photo #6) that is almost unnoticeable. I cleaned the sensor for the first time just last week. I just bought a new camera body, so my favorite camera needs a new home. It's truly a no-brainer. Included: Body cap, battery and charger. Shipped in its original box with silica to prevent moisture inside box. Thanks for considering my listing.
