And my new to me K-3 is toast. Another K-3 or a new K70?

I bought a used K3 on Amazon last month ahead of a 2 month trip to my home Brazil... lots of beaches on the roadmap.
The shutter never sounded quite right but I thought it was just super quiet. It was advertised as Excellent but had scratches so I was considering a return but wouldn't have time to buy another camera ahead of the trip. I even skipped on the $350 K70 because the K3 was supposed to bd bulletproof... despite having over 40k on the shutter (also not disclosed
...)
Today the shutter died, it won't fire using the viewfinder or live view... I just get a blinking red light on the body when pressing the shutter all the way. Tried different batteries and cards.

And I brought no backup. Why should I when I bought the K3 for its sturdiness after my beloved K-S1 developed aperture block failure?

Thankfully I scheduled the return so I'llget my moneyback. But now I'm stuck without a camera in paradise-looking Brazil for another 4 weeks without a camera. So bummed.

When I get back to the US in mid-January I might wait on another good deal on a new K70 instead of buying another 7 year old K3... until then I'll just cry I guess.

Why not the KP? It uses the same aperture mechanism as the K-3 series.

I don't know what your budget is but there's an open box KP (silver) on the RIcoh site for $625.95 USD.

Bummer, at least you can return. No camera sales in Brazil? Does nobody ship to Brazil?

perhaps there might be something in the marketplace " buy/sell " that might catch your eye

of course, you would have to work with the seller about delaying shipping until your return

good luck

I understand your disappointment and am glad you are getting a refund, but if it were me, I would find something to capture images on. Perhaps a phone, point & shoot, film, or anything. Surely, there's something available in Brazil.

For reference, note that your K-S1 will still work fine with any KAF4 lens, like the 55-300 PLM, and it will also work fine in Manual Mode with any older lens that has an aperture ring (K, M, A, F, FA).

KEH.com regularly sells used K-3's for $450 or less with a 6 month warranty (12 month warranty if purchased before Dec 31, 2020). They currently have one EX+ K-3 priced at $429 in stock. I purchased a EX K-3 from them about 6 months ago: it was in great shape and has worked without trouble through some heavy use.

The camera can be replaced, but the potential photos lost cannot.

I kept doing system resets until I got it to work... the shutter still sounds lazy (this K3 overexposed by about a step). But for now it seems to be firing the shutter...

My good old S6 has saved my butt countless times. What rotten luck, but hoping you can still get some memorable images somehow!

Suggestion: Run to your nearest Walmart and get a bridge camera like those Kodak Pixpro. I've seen them at great prices (around $100) for "older" models. Just get the one with the biggest (physical size) lens. The bigger the lens the better light gathering.
That can "bridge" the gap between the phone and the missing DSLR.

Thanks,
