There's no AF while shooting video, only before shooting video.
See page 40 of the manual.

So however good the Movie SR is, I hope there also remains the mechanical option.

You should take a look at K-3 owner manual. There it is. You can choose between different ways of AF-in movie.
Where is the page that says so?

That doesn't exclude the possibility of using the AF/Focus Peaking while recording. The manual is just not clear enough, like they didn't know at the time of writing it.

I read page 47. 'If you choose face detection, it locks up and follows it during recording' my translation from finnish. May be that I read it as I wish.

There is listed AF possibilityes at movie.

There is nothing like this on page 47 in the English version. About Face Detection they say:
QuoteQuote:
Detects and tracks faces of people.
(Default setting)
The main face detection frame for AF
and AE is displayed in yellow.
And the list is about the LV AF possibilities, not the AF during recording.

Thanks, that seems to say all you can have is "Movie SR" ON or OFF (i.e. we have been assuming software shake reduction but we don't actually know that yet). What I was saying is that we should have the mechanical (sensor shifting) shake reduction as an option, if Movie SR is software based.

Yes. My bad... But! At video shootin page 40. It says 'at AF mode push shutter halfway to autofocus. It is not far fetzhed that this AF mode could use things from Shooting with LV. Otherwise it would not say push shutter button. You don't need shutter anymore for video. Makes sense, no. And you can program AF button to AF instead of shutter button... We will have to see, right.

That sounds similar to the K-01 implementation. The K-01 does pre-focus (using half-press or AF button) before video, and even supports AF on-command (using same shutter half-press or AF button) during video, but will not do continuous AF during video.

I guess we'll have to see about the K-3.

You must have a different K-01 to mine because you cannot refocus during video recording with a half press.
Unless I have totally missed a setting I didn't know about..

I have the K-30 implementation in mind - you had e.g. Focus Peaking available, but you could not use it during recording etc.

What encourrages me is that Ricoh seems very comitted to improvements by regular firmware updates. What is missing now might come after in new iterations of the software or even a 2.0 version.

I think it is going to be good at the beginning and new features will make it great.

One of the things most interesting to observe here is that the three most active subjects so far on Pentax Forums about the K-3 cover: (a) video, (b) flash and (c) Wifi.

Every other issue (so far) hardly gets a mention. Perhaps this is something Ricoh should pay attention to.

No, I think it is that we have complete confidence in Pentax for IQ (stills). Both Video & flash were mis-rumoured & WiFi is someone not paying attention.

That is true, yet they have made big improvements on other places, so it is not anymore being in everyones teeths(focus for one)for now.

Besides, video is so minor part in photography and WiFi that it will take more time from Ricoh...and also to make up, if it is something that they wan't to evolve. They are making it to that direction thou. From K-01 with dedicated button, but still on the level what is just enough for today/compared to other models. +now they have that headphones thing. This is enough for many.

About flash...no comments, for me it is oukhay for now.

Jus my 2 cent.
