Pentax K-3 Video Discussion

[I thought that I'd start a thread specifically about the K-3's video capabilities so that the video-oriented folks don't get lost in discussions about flash sync, etc...]

Big thumbs up for the headphone jack!

I like that Pentax has taken video mode off of the Mode Dial and made a separate Stills/Video lever. This will make it far easier to switch between P, Tv, Av, and M modes while shooting video. Most other cameras simply have a video mode on the mode dial and then you have to menu dive to switch between modes. Well done, Pentax!

I'm also intrigued by the RAW listing on the leaked specs.

Let's hope that it doesn't get squashed!

k-5 also has 14-bit RAW! and k-5II and IIs ^^ my biggest hope for k3 is manual ISO and shutter speed control in video mode and the ability to switch from any mode to video mode keeping the same settings... I really hope you're right!! someone wrote the video lever also works as live view button (I think) i really hope that's not true because then it would only mean it gives LV in the other modes...

Since I don't do video I was puzzled by the new video/stills switch. But now it starts to make sense, never considered that you would use the exposure modes during video. I just thought it was, well, video...... Good to learn new stuff.

There's one more interesting video feature that hasn't leaked yet.

"Movie: MPEG-4 AVC/H.264(MOV) - JPEG(AVI) for internal movie record"

so h.264 and motion jpeg to choose from

from the marketing wrap:

movies have been series of still images since 1878... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eadweard_Muybridge I don't think you are older than that...

Right. For good quality video just print out a bunch of photos and make a flip book.
