I very much hope to have a second camera body within 12 months or there about (make things easier), that being the K-3 replacement or indeed that unmentionable mythical beast, anyway the K-3? with three or four nice primes, the K-5 will be a body for all my pre-set, M42 and other manual lenses to play around with. That is the plan

Lately I'm using the K-3 for all of my "important work", but I don't think I will dispose of my old bodies just yet.
I put a split-prism focus screen in my K-50. Now it has its own set of manual-focus lenses and shoots in black & white.
This is going so well that I bought some Tri-X and HC-110 for those even older bodies, the KX and K2.
Now, while I'm sipping espresso and listening to Radio Havana in the tool shed, I can be processing my negatives too.

My K-5 became my backup/second body when I got my K-3.

I've tried, unsuccessfully so far, to get my kids interested in photography but unfortunately they were born in the iPhone generation where convenience and sharing photos with friends is the most important factor vs. image quality and capability. I did buy them both compact cameras (not Pentax) a couple years ago but sadly they don't use them much. If my kids were interested in photography I would most likely increase my upgrade cycle and hand down my old bodies to them.

It's funny, the K-3 is total overkill for web work, so nowadays I'm using the 16 megapickle K-5 or K-01 when working on web-only projects.

It isn't my older camera bodies that bother me. It's my 63 year old body that could use a major upgrade.

I have a K5, K5-IIs and now a K3. I figure that my K5-IIs is going to be my main backup body and my K5 is going to get a new career as I try to learn astro photography.
