Been there. Done that. Really.

So how can one explain Resident Alien status ... ?!

Well yeah, pretty much. Stars are essentially big factories, fuzing hydrogen and helium into heavier elements in layers until the star supernovas, throwing these fused heavy elements out into the cosmos to form things like asteroids and planets and what have you. So yeah, star dust, if you're feeling poetic, or you're a physicist who's trying to get laid.

And when you are done with that one, could one of our "friends to the North (meaning Canada)" explain "Landed" status?

Thanks. That makes me feel better.

Just FYI, I was once an alien resident in France ... and for a brief period, even an illegal alien.

So, been there. done that, too.

It means you stepped off the boat or plane (or spacecraft) and now you're on our land, and for the moment we're OK with that, but as we get to know you, we might change our mind, and un-land you. (Put you back on a plane or ship).

Hey, no need to keep doing that. We already hate you, ok?

(And really, it does make my €12 Industar seem like highway robbery...)
