IS there a Finch rule as well as one for Popes, or is it just Cardinals... Tess knows some people who knew what they were doing and had been eating wild mushrooms for years, and still died after getting a mushroom confused with it's look alike poisonous cousin. So, it's possible to know a lot, but still not know enough. They went into their house two days later and found them, with some of the offensive mushroom still on the counter. I like the grocery store rule, I could take lessons from a few folks I know, but why?

Morels are the king of mushrooms!

Grilled bacon and cheese mushroom caps are the cat's meow!

Even I know what Morels look like, I've only ever found them in the wild once, a very long time ago.

I've never quite understood the popularity of eating wild mushrooms. I would never eat cheese or bacon I found lying around in the woods.

I may adopt that as a signature line.

As long as the bacon doesn't reel and the cheese isn't mouldy, you should be good to go. Apparently meats start smelling bad, long before they are actually dangerous to eat. But again, better to be safe than sorry.

Have at several times had wild mushrooms. So long as you know the difference between similar looking mushrooms, where one is poisonous, and the other not, then it's perfectly fine picking wild mushrooms. Here by us, for instance, there's a wild mushroom that looks, from the top, almost exactly like the store bought brown mushroom, but the underside is very different.

All the ones on this page (see link) are toxic (So it pays to know what you're doing) Poisonous mushrooms
These ones specifically, will kill: http://www.trufflesandmushrooms.co.nz/Death%20cap%20pamphlet.pdf

Cheese is fine to eat even when decidely mouldy. Bacon if properly cured, will last quite well out of the refrigerator.
