To my surprise, this thing is very lean/green in normal use.
Running Nvidia "New Dawn" does make the graphics card to crank out some heat. The "full array led"? panel is not putting out much heat either.
So in conclusion: What I have is of no use against Godzilla!
Yeah, those Nvidea cards run hot.

I frequently lose reception during wet snow. Have to go out with a broom and ladder and clean the dish. It always happens during sporting events.
Yeah, during heavy rain, whe've had the "due to atmospheric conditions, your service has been interupted..."

Here by us, we have lots and lots of competition. Excepty we don't. Allow me to explain:

See, all the telco's use the came cables. So, when you have a fault, and you ring your service provider, they ring the company that owns the cables, who rings another company who has the contract to work on those cables. So, it matters not which useless company your "provider" actually is - at the end of the day, or more correctly, 2 days later, the same Downer technician turns up in his van, regardless of who your service provider is.

Our electrical system works the same way. The power retailers sell the power, but the lines company owns the lines. And if you have a fault, you have to contact your retailer who contacts the lines company who sends out a sub-contractor to try to find the fault.

Isn't it strange? I asked my cable t.v. provider about that once after one of a string of picture breakup events. He said high winds can interfere with the microwave transmission and recption. I asked how it was that aircraft traveling at speeds well in excess of 500 kts; as fast as mach 3+ in the case of the SR71, can maintain radio contact, but when the wind blows more than about 40 kts my t.v. reception breaks up.
Oddly, he didn't have an answer.
And when was the last time you spent $1billion on your connection? There is a reason.

Just like Racer could make $10k planes, but they would look like Sopwith Camels.

I suspect it is vibration and flexing of the relay towers.

That's certainly a valid theory, but my theory is that I have a crappy internet/cable t.v. provider.
Is there any other kind?

I traveled to San Antonio and back recently via a commercial airline. They offered internet access and movie streaming in flight.

I watched the free app they offered that showed our speed, altitude, direction, etc. Here is some of that data:

Ground speed: 605 mph/974 kph

Altitude: 37,024 Ft/11,285 meters

Outside wind direction: WNW

Outside wind speed: 92 mph/148 mph

Looks like it was really windy!

And the movie I was streaming didn't miss a frame.

Just back a couple of weeks with no outside news in the desert. I hope your friends are all OK, JP.

...

Good to see this thread has kept steadily off course most of the time, though. Although with some slip-ups with gear talk - and that rather shocking incident with the hociR sponsored gentleman struggling to keep his car straight

IIRC, there's someone building a Camel in Kalamazoo (or was, a couple years ago). The airframe was almost complete when I saw it at the AirZoo, but they were having a hard time deciding how to skin it - doped linen (would have to be redone every couple years) or a modern synthetic (much more durable, but not authentic).
