Neither of those attributes apply to the vast majority of Americans I know. Also: Yellow card: politics!

Drop the politics guys! A Mod will be here and blister your hinies likkity split! No one needs a reminder that politics sucks the big lemon, we all know it! We should just relax and enjoy politics, not pick at it...after all, it is like a free circus....bring popcorn!

A note to someone I know will be along here soon enough......Look for a delivery Thurs or Friday. The box was really neat but in my hurry to pack it, sitting in my truck in the pouring rain, I forgot to put the damn lid on it. It would have made a neat little container.....
I am missing Otis Squirrel....if he is in there, send him back, he owes me money.

Don't enjoy all at once....and share!

Regards!

Is it politics to wonder about the mass delusion that effects a nation? Is it politics to wonder about the differences in culture that can bring such a nightmare scenario to reality?

If so ban me. I'll give Adam a poke and see if I've crossed some line.

Now that you mention it, there have been a few times discussions of cultural differences have been mistaken for politics by mods, I'm not sure they make a distinction. It's a fine line for sure. Tessfully was doing her thesis on the mass hysteria that led to the banning of Pit Bulls in Ontario. As a result she became very disillusioned with the way the media, the politicians and in the end, the public in general created an aura of hysteria around these dogs it all became self prophetic. So part of the cultural process was the political ramifications. It's hard to discuss one without the other.

Just as a side note. Pit bulls were banned, hundreds of dogs were put down, and the number of dog attacks has continued to rise. It turns out, like guns, the problem isn't with the pit bulls, it's with the people who buy them. Ontario politicians still haven't reversed the ban, or admitted it didn't accomplish anything. For some it's an interesting cultural phenomenon, for others, it's pure politics. My guess is, no one want to have to pay enough attention to a thread to try and see when it crosses that line. And the mods here definitely err on the side of closing the thread. I actually had one thread closed for describing the Canadian health care system. That's a cultural subject for Canadians, a clear line in the sand between American and Canadian culture, and not a political issue here at all. All political parties favour our health care system. IN the U.S. it's a political issue. Given that it's a photography forum the safe approach is to just ban it all. As much as I enjoy discussing those issues, it's not worth offending forum members over.

We all know those things......we get a gut full every time we turn on the tube, our computer, the radio......

This is a place for haggling over Velveeta and bacon. These thing are important too! Now should any politician want to ban bacon or Velveeta, the door to politics will fly open in a hurry! Even Adam might not want to have a Forum with no bacon....he might even be a closet Velveeta lover...who knows?

Ask for a ban and you will be quickly obliged...trust me...I have vast experience!

Regards!

EDIT: Pardon me...I forgot cheap wine.....we do cheap wine here too...what was I thinkin'...or not thinkin"!

Haven't you guys heard? We have oil and gas deposits galore and we need to use all the petroleum products we can! Velveeta is a national patriot! Any cow can produce some ordinary cheese...even goats can do it...but only modern chemistry can produce Velveeta!

If it involves discussing the possible election of a controversial presidential candidate in an election year, I can't see how it is anything BUT politics. Being in Oz, it may not be politics for you to discuss American politics, but it certainly is for us. (Pity us - we have to LIVE with this stuff.) No need for a ban - I called "yellow card" to put the brakes on before things spiral out of control (as they frequently do in this thread).

But getting back to your original post, don't mistake some of the loudest minorities for representing the whole of Americans. If that rule were true, "everyone on PF" would be Sony fanboys obsessed with video, "uncrippling" the K-mount, and squirrels.

I see a lot of people doing stupid stupid stupid things with thier dogs. My neighbor owning a German Shepherd, a very docile one fortunately, who allowed their youngest so to run around the yard hitting it with large 4'-5' sticks. I was the only one to go out side and stop the events. The child did not want to listen to me and grandstanded me until I threatened to video his action and send the police to his house. Come to find out..... His parents had been watching him do that to the dog the whole time and on several occasions. So when the dog got loose again... Again... Again... Again... The whole neighborhood was so fed up at this time they allowed the animal control to pick the dog up. A 'Breeder' Pit Bill always shows up in my yard looking for food. It's ribs are sticking out and has nipples from having a right now litter. So whoever owns this dogs believes in making money from the puppies but not using any of the money to actually FEED the mamma dog..... Yay! Go stupid human! They do not need a dog, do not need to breed dogs of any sort. The dog is so unsocialised that it barks at me in my own yard as it eats food I provided, animal control will get this one next. Hope they spent their money and can't make it's bail. My friend is a dog breeder she has more dogs die on her because she thinks she knows more than the vet. She often gives them antibiotics not ever meant for dogs but then she is making her own diagnosis on her dogs, and does not know if they really even need an antibiotic. Then she has a 'sudden and mysterious' dog death. Oh 'RIP' poor puppy.... Really? The problem is people most of the time, stupidity, greed, and lots of human error.

The mentality that wants a "bully breed" dog for the intimidating looks probably is the wrong mentality to raise & train a dog properly from the get-go, since they are seeing the dog as an accessory (and have some unresolved insecurity issues).

Semi-unrelated, but amusing to me: at the zoo this weekend, there was a family with a service dog - huge black lab with a jacket full of water bottles. They walk up to the mountain lion exhibit, he doesn't even look at the cats on the other side of the glass, just flops over. The family said that's how he lies down - crash. The funny thing was that the cats didn't even look at him, either!
